Assignment Sheet
Below, you will find the assignment sheet used in the WGST 50103 class for the Fall 2021 semester. This assignment was co-created by me (Saffyre Falkenberg) and Dr. Sarah Robbins. The class contained doctoral and master's students along with advanced undergraduates, all from a variety of majors and disciplinary backgrounds. This assignment was the end-of-unit project on Feminist Historiography exploring and reflecting upon a history of the present. In the assignment sheet, you will find a vision statement for the project, the learning goals, and the directions and framing for the project.
Resource List
Here, you will find the various resources that students could choose from in order to complete their projects.. These resources remind students that, according to numerous Indigenous activists and scholars, dating surrounding MMIWG2S is sacred and must be treated with the utmost respect. The list contain a mix of options for students to choose from, including: profiles of Indigenous activists, activist groups, news coverage, podcasts, documentaries, recorded events and webinars, and events happening on campus. Students could choose any one cluster from the list to base their project on. This list was not intended to be comprehensive and was meant to be a starting point for students' learning process.
Assigning the Project
When assigning the project, I created a slideshow to introduce the assignment to the class. The slideshow begins first with the land acknowledgement that I use on my syllabi in my own classes. Next, the slideshow provides some context about the ongoing problem of murder, kidnapping, and sex trafficking that Indigenous peoples experience, including explaining why this issue warrants serious feminist inquiry. Then, I contextualize the assignment within the university's own commitment to spotlighting the issue. Finally, I assign the project using the assignment sheet and resource list shown above and preview a draft of this website for them.
